I'm a recent recipient of an NEH Digital Humanities Grant titled "Concentration in the Humanities" (cf. http://itintheuniversity.blogspot.com/2011/05/concentration-in-humanities.html) in which (following your prompt) we actually read Nicholas Carr as part of the grant project. I keep a blog where I like to write "on the state of the university and the humanities in the information age" (itintheuniversity.blogspot.com). I'm a software developer at Weber State University in Ogden Utah. Apropo of the AHA being in New Orleans this year, back in the early 80's I went down to Louisiana to work as a roustabout on an oil rig. It was right after the oil bust so I couldn't find work. Instead I ended up spending the summer living in New Orleans homeless shelters. I hope to find better accommodations this visit.
